If you’re in the market for a VPN service, it’s only logical that you’d check out every option to see how the available providers stack up. You may reach a point at which you’ve narrowed the field down to two, and if those two are NordVPN and KeepSolid VPN Unlimited, then you’re in luck. We’ve already done the hard work of comparing and contrasting these two well-known VPN providers to see which is ultimately your best bet.

So who comes out on top in the battle of NordVPN vs. VPN Unlimited? Which VPN service should you hand your hard-earned money to? Let’s dig in and find out.

NordVPN vs. VPN Unlimited: Servers and Streaming

If you work remotely or travel a lot, then servers will likely be very important to you. You’ll want to know whether you can connect to a nearby server where you’re staying and you’ll want to feel confident your VPN provider has good coverage.

In this category, NordVPN is the runaway victor. It boasts 5,000 servers across 59 countries, while VPN Unlimited has only about 500 servers and touts its 80-plus “locations” instead of countries, which means there’s a chance your country of choice is missing entirely. That’s a big deal, and it’s one of the things we praised when we tested NordVPN for our review.

On the streaming side, however, the competition is pretty much a wash. Most VPN providers know support for location-shifting — using a VPN to appear as though you’re in a different place — is a make-or-break feature. Both NordVPN and VPN Unlimited enable you to spoof your location while using Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and more. We didn’t run into any issues while using either service, and we recommend both NordVPN and KeepSolid VPN Unlimited for this type of use.

NordVPN vs. VPN Unlimited: Security

Security is key for any VPN. If you’re using a VPN to protect your data, then you’ll almost certainly want the VPN to treat security very seriously. In this area, we’d give NordVPN a slight edge over KeepSolid VPN Unlimited — for a couple reasons.

When it comes to protocols, NordVPN supports OpenVPN, IKEv2, and WireGuard. VPN Unlimited has support for only OpenVPN and WireGuard. It isn’t a huge security issue since those are two highly secure protocols, but we still like the variety NordVPN offers.

Both companies can lay claim to no-logs policies, but NordVPN is based in Panama and VPN Unlimited is, unfortunately, headquartered in the United States. VPN Unlimited is far more likely to be forced to hand over private user data, which means people who care deeply about security have to think twice before using it.

NordVPN vs. VPN Unlimited: Speed

When using a VPN, you may want a service that doesn’t put an enormous strain on your internet speed. You may want your online experience to be as close to — if not equal to — what you’d get when not using a VPN. It’s tough not to give NordVPN the trophy yet again. When we put these services through their paces for our reviews, they weren’t exactly working invisibly in the background. NordVPN, however, didn’t sink our speeds the way VPN Unlimited did when we tested it for our KeepSolid VPN Unlimited review.

We noticed a bit of a slowdown with NordVPN, but every VPN has at least some impact on internet speeds and we felt the hit wasn’t too bad. With KeepSolid VPN Unlimited, on the other hand, our speeds were unpredictable. While using the service from Houston, we saw faster speeds connecting to a server in France than we saw connecting to one in Colorado, and both servers brought our gigabit connection down several hundred Mbps.

NordVPN vs. VPN Unlimited: Features, Ease of Use, and More

When you dive into the features both NordVPN and VPN Unlimited provide — the features on top of basic VPN functionality, that is — you may conclude that this is another draw. Both aim to meet the bare minimum of what a VPN service is supposed to do, but neither goes further to offer other useful features, such as password managers.

Both services are also easy to use, with apps available on numerous platforms. One thing I always look for when reviewing VPN apps across multiple devices is user-interface consistency. NordVPN and VPN Unlimited have that, so it’s easy to jump from one device to another while still understanding how everything works.

Both also allow you to connect to servers specifically tailored for P2P file sharing (you know, torrenting). VPN Unlimited makes these servers slightly easier to find since there’s a whole category for them on the servers list. NordVPN hides them behind an Advanced Options menu.

This is a tight category, and it ends up as a draw. There are fewer KeepSolid VPN Unlimited features, but the app is very easy to use. NordVPN has a few perks hidden in advanced settings, but it offers more to tweak overall.

NordVPN vs. VPN Unlimited: Price

We recommend longer-term plans with most VPNs, and that’s certainly true of NordVPN. NordVPN’s pricing is very solid, and we think it offers a pretty attractive value compared to the competition.

If you just need a VPN to use every once in a while and you’re willing to pay $99 to never have to worry about it again, VPN Unlimited’s Lifetime Plan may grab your interest. That price — which lets you pay once and never again — is something NordVPN simply does not match.

NordVPN vs. VPN Unlimited: Which Is Right For You?

With NordVPN and VPN Unlimited put side by side, which wins? Which VPN service should you choose?

After all the research we did, it would be hard not to recommend NordVPN. It is undoubtedly the winner for server coverage and its focus on security. In most other categories, VPN Unlimited manages only to come even with NordVPN.

Still, KeepSolid’s price is right: The VPN Unlimited lifetime subscription is a great way to cheaply solve your VPN needs, and that may be worth skipping a few bells and whistles for some budget-conscious shoppers.

In the end, you’ll need to figure out which type of customer you are. How important are security and coverage? How much does price factor into your decision? If the former is most important, then NordVPN seems like the obvious choice. If it’s the latter, then maybe VPN Unlimited is a better fit.
