Ladies and gentlemen, awards season is back with the Golden Globes! And with it comes a slew of nominations representing the very best in cinematic and television viewing. Streaming platforms and services have busted the doors wide open on ways to watch. No longer must you wait eons for movie studios to release their award winners for home viewing. For cinematic production, 2021 was a doozy, as studios rushed to get titles released after suffering a sudden, unexpected hiatus due to the pandemic in 2020. The resulting nominations represent an eclectic mix of gripping dramas, rowdy comedies, and beautifully produced musicals, many of which are now or will be available for streaming. Among the top nominees are “Belfast” (still in theaters) and “The Power of the Dog” (Netflix) — both with seven nominations each. “West Side Story,” “Licorice Pizza,” and “Don’t Look Up” came in next with four nominations each.

This season, streaming services are deep in the award hunt, with nominations in television and motion picture pieces. Netflix earned 17 Golden Globe nominations, HBO Max pulled in 15 nods, and Hulu rounded out the top three with 10 in the running.
