Read about some of our favorite Xfinity internet and TV deals.
Xfinity is one of the most popular internet and cable TV providers in the U.S., with service available to more than 100 million Americans in 40 states. You may not think of a cable company if you’re looking to cut the cord, but plenty of Xfinity customers use only Xfinity internet service and stream all their TV. Streamers especially should look out for Xfinity internet deals. Xfinity internet plans come with a contract (which I’m not a big fan of), but they include a free 4K streaming device and a free premium subscription to Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.
Xfinity offers six internet plans, which you can check out below.
Xfinity is the most widely available cable internet provider in the U.S., but you won’t find its plans in sparsely populated areas. If Xfinity is available near you, the best deal you’ll get is the Performance Pro Plus plan. You could get lower prices on a gigabit internet plan with AT&T Fiber internet or a Verizon Fios deal, and they are available in most areas that Xfinity services.
Xfinity’s prices seem high after the promotional period ends, but those prices cover the cost of Xfinity’s exclusive products and services, which are worth it. Any streamer could get a great setup with an Xfinity plan when you consider discounts and freebies. It would be cheaper to combine your internet and streaming services bills in one, especially since Peacock is a full-range streaming service. In a way, Xfinity’s internet plans are bundle offers for streamers.

Xfinity is the fastest internet provider in 16 states, but its users have an average download speed of about 150 Mbps — nowhere near a gigabit. That’s still more than enough speed for any household of heavy streamers, remote workers, and online gamers like mine.
If I have one gripe with Xfinity, it’s the 1.2-terabyte (TB) data cap that exists in most markets and is coming to more in 2022. I’m not that upset about it though. We stream all day — Netflix and Hulu are my go-to services for background noise when I’m cooking or falling asleep — and I still don’t use 1.2 TB each month. I’m nowhere close. If you go over your data cap, Xfinity charges $10 per 50 GB of data used. Xfinity caps its data overage fees at $100 a month, or you can pay an extra $30 a month for unlimited data. (If you need that much data, you may be better off with providers that offer data-cap-free plans, such as Spectrum and Frontier.)
You may come a little closer to hitting your data cap if you watch a lot of 4K UHD content or stream live television on a service such as YouTube TV. Still, 1.2 TB is a lot of data, and you’re unlikely to hit it unless you’re really going wild with live high-definition streaming.
Ultimately, the price is right: Xfinity's deals include some of the most affordable internet plans on the market.
It can be difficult to figure out Xfinity’s internet fees. It’s clear there’s an installation fee, whether you do it yourself or have a professional do it for you. Most customers are quoted $89.99 for professional installation, but confirm that with Xfinity. Thankfully, most plans offer self-installation, which has a $15 fee.
Once you’ve signed up, there’s a $14-per-month equipment-rental fee if you rent Xfinity’s modem-and-router combination, the xFi Gateway. You could also go with xFi Complete for $25 per month, which includes the Gateway, unlimited data (a $30 per month value), and an automatic home Wi-Fi evaluation. Depending on the results of the Wi-Fi evaluation, you may also get a free xFi Pod Wi-Fi extender, which would typically cost $119.
Xfinity offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on all its internet services, so you can take your time to decide whether you want to stay with it. Xfinity’s internet plans come with a minimum one-year contract, but don’t worry about being stuck in a contract if you cancel your Xfinity plan early since providers such as Spectrum offer to pay new customers’ early-termination fees if you switch. That makes it easier to deal with short contracts like Xfinity’s, but you should see whether providers near you have contract-buyout offers before you commit.
If you end your contract early, Xfinity will charge you for the remaining months. Xfinity’s policy on early-termination fees isn’t always clear, but it won’t cost more than your remaining monthly charges. Recent reports have said Xfinity charges $10 a month for the remainder of your contract. Make sure to check the current fees when you sign up because they may change.
Xfinity’s nonpromotional prices are a bit high for a budget-conscious person like me. In my Xfinity review, I found that the promotional prices fit my budget — $49.99 a month for speeds up to 200 Mbps is a rare deal — but I wish its nonpromotional prices were a bit lower. I don’t want to have to switch providers each year to find an affordable plan.
Still, Xfinity’s pricing is understandable when you consider all you get. The price you pay for any Xfinity internet plan includes high-speed internet at home and at millions of public Wi-Fi hotspots, a 4K streaming device, a Peacock Premium subscription, and — if you rent the xFi Gateway — cybersecurity features. For all that, there isn’t a better deal.
