Netflix

Do you share your Netflix password? If you do, you’re not alone. According to a survey conducted over on our sister site, AllFlicks, 47.8% of all Netflix users share their password. That figure includes both those who share their password within their family and those who share it with their friends.

As you might expect, the number of people sharing Netflix within their family dwarfs the number of people who share their passwords with friends, coworkers, and other acquaintances. 43.6% of all Netflix users have multiple family members sharing the same account, while just 4.2% of users split their account with non-family members.

If you’re one of the 47.8%, you don’t need to worry too much. Netflix has gone on record saying that they don’t consider password sharing a “meaningful issue.” They say they have no plans to prosecute password sharers. Instead, Netflix has centered their accounts strategy around their multi-tiered plans, which include higher-priced plans that allow simultaneous viewing on multiple screens. Though ostensibly designed for use within a single household, these accounts seem tailor-made for sharing with family members outside the home – or even with friends.

In total, 1,000 Netflix users participated in the survey.
