The channel also has distribution agreements with Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox (Cleveland), Insight Communications, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, RCN, Service Electric, Shaw (Canada) and over 250 other cable operators in North America.

Cable services differ per area, as some providers carry BTN for free while others outside of the Big Ten states have it as part of a paid package.

BTN subscribers can also watch the channel using mobile devices through BTN2Go with a minimum connection speed of 3 Mbps. Viewers just need to log-in their TV provider credentials on the Internet to watch BTN. Aside from a live feed of the BTN programming, viewers can also access the network’s archive through BTN2Go.

BTN Programming

In a year, BTN televises more than 500 events and streams about 1,000 more on its online platform. The annual coverage includes about 40 football games, 120 regular-season men’s basketball games, Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament games, 55 women’s basketball games, and Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament games. The channel also carries hundreds of additional Olympic sports events and dozens of Big Ten championship events.

But aside from sporting events BTN also produces a number of studio shows and original programming. The network’s signature series is The Journey, which has multiple Emmy nominations. Included in BTN’s original are Big Ten Elite, Big Ten Treasure Hunter, and the documentary Tiebreaker.

BTN’s 10-year Anniversary

Since its launch on August 30, 2007, BTN has made strides in expanding the reach of what was once seen as a novel idea a channel dedicated to a single athletic conference. At the time of its launch, DirecTV and AT&T U-verse were the only major carriers to broadcast the network, but Dish Network joined the party shortly thereafter. The major holdout in the Midwest was Time Warner cable, and this continued for a year or so before a deal was reached in 2008.

To commemorate its string of milestones BTN launched a multi-platform retrospective to capture its most iconic moments in network history for its 10th-anniversary celebration. These specials include 11 new shows and assorted content on digital and social platforms.
