Want to learn about the new Disney Plus streaming service and all it has to offer? Hear what our experts have to say about Disney Plus along with the top three Disney Plus alternatives.
Disney Plus is hoping to be one of the best streaming services on the market, after all, with a name like Disney, who would argue. And, Disney has announced that it will soon offer a triple bundle that will include Disney Plus, ESPN+, and Hulu into one affordable package for only $12.99 per month. This smart packaging will surely be popular because it will include programming that would be of interest to every member of your family. However, if you don't need all that variety, here are some Disney Plus alternatives for you to consider.
If you prefer the simplicity of having just one streaming service to deal with, then Hulu might just be the perfect Disney Plus alternative. Neither Disney Plus nor Hulu requires you to sign a contract and Hulu does offer a 30-day free trial, except on the Hulu + Live TV, which is only a one-week free trial. On the other hand, Disney Plus isn't offering a free trial, at least for now.
With Disney Plus, you will be able to stream four devices at one time, which will be important if you opt for the triple bundle because every member of your family will probably be streaming at once. Comparatively, with Hulu, and only the Hulu + Live TV option, you can stream up to two devices at once unless you add the Unlimited Screens option for $10 per month. Additionally, with both Disney Plus and Hulu you have access to original content programming and mobile playback. However, only Hulu offers live TV streaming, Disney Plus does not.
Disney Plus is only $6.99 per month, at least for now, and when it rolls out its triple bundle (Disney Plus, ESPN+, and Hulu) that will be $12.99 per month. Hulu, on the other hand, is $5.99 per month for their base plan and the Hulu + Live TV is $44.99 per month. However, both options offer kids programming and more. As far as pricing goes, Disney Plus and the base Hulu plan are comparable. However, the Hulu + Live TV is higher than both Disney Plus and the upcoming Disney triple bundle.
A Great Alternative to Disney Plus
Netflix has been a long-time contender in the streaming wars as it was one of the first to offer such a service. Neither Disney Plus nor Netflix requires a contract commitment. Disney Plus doesn't offer a free trial period, whereas Netflix does. The Netflix free trial is a full 30-days to try it before you decide.
Disney Plus is generous with its simultaneous streaming count. You can actually stream four devices at once with Disney Plus. Netflix also gives you up to four streams at once depending on your plan. Additionally, both Netflix and Disney Plus offer mobile playback and original content programming. However, neither Netflix or Disney Plus have any live TV streaming options.
Cost is a big factor for most people who are trying to decide which streaming service to choose. Disney Plus is $6.99 a month and will get you all the Disney programming you could want with movies, series, and more, including unlimited downloads. Netflix has three plans that really aren't all that much more. The Netflix plans are $8.99/mo., $12.99/mo., and $15.99/mo. respectively.
Who doesn't love Amazon? Amazon is now offering its Amazon Prime Video service with its Prime membership. That membership gives you all the Prime benefits and an entire streaming service that includes live sports, movies, originals, TV shows, kids programming and more. And, Amazon lets you try its Prime membership for an entire month for free. Unfortunately, Disney Plus isn't offering a free trial at all—at least for now.
If you're wondering about simultaneous streaming, Disney Plus lets you stream four devices at once. And with the Amazon Prime Video service you can stream three devices at one time and only two at once if both devices are streaming the same content. Additionally, both Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus offer mobile playback and plenty of original content programming. Amazon Prime Video also offers live TV streaming, but Disney Plus does not.
The Disney Plus streaming service is going for $6.99. Amazon Prime Video is part of the Amazon Prime membership which is $119 per year or $12.99 per month. The first 30-days are free and you can cancel at any time. Additionally, Amazon offers students a huge discount so keep that in mind if you are a student. Amazon Prime Video is only slightly more a month than Disney Plus; however, you do get the extra benefits with Prime. But, don't forget that Disney will soon be offering a triple bundle for only $12.99 a month so that makes both services comparatively the same price-wise.
