Hear what our experts have to say about Netflix and some of the Netflix alternatives.

Netflix is one of the longest standing streaming services on the market and is very popular for good reason. Probably because Netflix has the programming and the name recognition people love. In fact, Netflix was the original streaming service back in the day. Fast forward to today and Netflix continues to lead the pack with popular programming, original series, movies, kids shows, sports, and family entertainment. However, you might also want to consider a Netflix alternative before making any final decisions.

1. Hulu

Netflix and Hulu both offer 30-day free trial periods, except with Hulu, it will depend on the plan you choose. Its Hulu + Live TV only has a 7-day free trial. However, you won't have to sign any contracts to use either service, there aren't any hidden fees, and you can cancel either of them pretty easily any time.

With Netflix, you can stream up to four devices at once depending on the plan you've chosen. With Hulu, you can stream up to two devices at once. However, Hulu also offers an Unlimited Screens add-on option which is only $10 a month; however, some restrictions apply (of course). Additionally, both Hulu and Netflix offer mobile playback and have original content programming. However, only Hulu offers live TV streaming, Netflix does not.

Netflix has three plans that are between $8.99 a month and $15.99 a month. Hulu has two plans that are between $5.99 a month and $44.99 a month, which is their Hulu + Live TV plan. And, both brands have the option of adding on premium channels and features as well. Comparatively, Netflix and Hulu are similar in price for the most part, unless you opt for the Hulu + Live TV plan which is significantly higher.

2. Disney Plus

Netflix is an old-timer in the streaming industry and Disney Plus will be the newest once it's released on November 12, 2019. However, Disney Plus will soon begin offering its triple bundle that will consist of Disney Plus, ESPN+, and Hulu for $12.99 a month.

Netflix offers a 30-day free trial. However, Disney Plus doesn't offer any free trial at all—at least for now. But, neither Disney Plus nor Netflix has a contract requirement and neither have any hidden fees. Additionally, you can cancel your subscription with either service at any time.

The number of simultaneous streams you can have with Netflix is up to four, but the number will depend on your plan. Disney Plus also gives you four simultaneous streams; however, there are no plan restrictions with them. Additionally, both Disney Plus and Netflix offer mobile playback and original content programming. However, neither brand comes with live TV streaming.

The pricing is where the major differences come in. Netflix has three plans from which you can choose, and they range from $8.99 a month up to $15.99 a month. But Disney Plus only has one plan and it's $6.99 per month. With that being said, Disney announced that it will be offering a triple bundle very soon that will consist of Disney Plus, ESPN+, and Hulu for a very low monthly price of $12.99! Therefore, the upcoming Disney triple bundle and Netflix's upper-tier plan are almost the same when it comes to price.

3. Amazon Prime Video

The Amazon Prime membership now includes a streaming service as part of its benefits. Amazon is already a behemoth when it comes to anything and everything online. And their streaming service is no different. The Amazon Prime membership comes with a 30-day free trial, as well as all the other Prime membership benefits. Netflix also offers a 30-day free trial and has a nice mix of programming options.

With Netflix, you can stream on up to four devices at once and with Amazon Prime Video, you can have three simultaneous streams at once. However, if your account is streaming the same video, then you can only stream on two devices at one time. Additionally, both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix both offer original content programming and mobile playback. However, only Amazon Prime Video offers live TV streaming, Netflix does not.

Amazon is offering its Prime membership for $119 a year or $12.99 a month, which is fantastic considering you aren't just getting a streaming service. However, Netflix has a Basic plan that's cheaper than the Amazon Prime membership price. The Netflix plans run from $8.99/mo. to $15.99/mo. So as far as price goes, both the Netflix upper-tier plan and Amazon Prime Video cost almost the same; however, Netflix also offers a lower-tier plan that is a bit cheaper.
