Connecting to the internet can be a risky business, particularly when you use public Wi-Fi networks like the one at your local coffee shop. A virtual private network (or VPN, for short) is a service that encrypts your internet traffic so that prying eyes can’t see what you’re doing. What’s more, a VPN can also hide your location so that websites you’re visiting can’t track down where you are. VyprVPN is just one of the many VPN services available to consumers. Today, we’re going to be taking a closer look at what VyprVPN has to offer and how it might fit into what you do on the web.

What Do I Get With VyprVPN?

VyprVPN is a subscription VPN service. It competes with similar services, like NordVPN (see plans) and ExpressVPN (see plans). VyprVPN routes your internet traffic through a remote server, encrypting it along the way so that all of your information stays safe. That’s the basic functionality of any VPN service, so no surprises there!

Besides this core functionality, VyprVPN has some other features it touts. For example, its “Chameleon” feature works to get around content blocks, which is particularly useful if you’re in a country that practices censorship. VyprVPN also has “Public Wi-Fi Protection,” which automatically turns the VyprVPN app on whenever you connect to a public hotspot.

VPN services maintain a lot of different servers that they can route your traffic through. VyprVPN covers a lot of (literal) ground in this department by offering servers in just about every major region of the globe. In terms of raw numbers, however, VyprVPN operates a little lean: VyprVPN boasts “700+” servers around the globe. As we noted in our VyprVPN review, that’s a far cry from the thousands of servers that many competitors offer.

What Can I Watch Using VyprVPN?

Before we get too far into this section, it’s worth reminding you that streaming video services don’t always get along with VPNs. Since Netflix, Disney+, and the rest of the streaming gang have content blocked by region due to licensing agreements, they don’t necessarily want to see users getting around the rules with VPNs. For this reason, using a VPN with a streaming video service is usually against terms of service.

That said, if you dig around on a VPN provider’s website long enough, you’ll probably find a page that mentions all of the video streaming services it works with. These VPN services know very well that many users are looking to use their VPNs this way.

VyprVPN bills itself as “the fastest way to stream Netflix.” Whether or not it’s as fast as competitors is debatable, but our testing proves that VyprVPN does indeed work with Netflix — as well as with Hulu, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and many other streaming services.

How Private is VyprVPN?

If you’re using a VPN, it’s likely because you want to keep your information safe and keep your online activity private. What good does it do to stay incognito online if your VPN provider can see what you’re doing — and potentially sell that data? To reassure users, quality VPNs virtually always have a “no logs” policy. VyprVPN checks that box: It describes itself as an “audited No-Log VPN.” The “audited” bit means that VyprVPN had a public audit of its claims, which is something that not every VPN service can truthfully say.

VyprVPN employs encryption and a NAT (network address translation) firewall to truly keep all your online activities secret. The encryption that VyprVPN brags about comes with one of the several VPN protocols that the service supports. Depending on how you set your preferences, you could use OpenVPN, IPSec, WireGuard, or VyprVPN’s own “Chameleon” protocol to guard your privacy.

What Devices Does VyprVPN Work On?

If you plan on using your VPN service on more than just a home computer, multi-device support is crucial. It ensures you’re protected no matter where you’re connecting to the internet or which device you’re connecting with. You should always seek out a VPN service that has strong support for a number of different devices. Ideally, a VPN service should enable you to run your VPN on more than one of these devices simultaneously.

VyprVPN has quite a few apps available. You’ll find apps for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and smart TV platforms. Not only that, but you can even use VyprVPN with certain routers, protecting your internet connection from that point while avoiding the need for apps at home altogether.

VyprVPN allows for five simultaneous connections at once. This means you can keep your PC, your phone, your tablet, and two other devices safeguarded all at the same time.

How Much Does VyprVPN cost?

Quite a few VPN providers operate using the “long-term discount” model. That is, if you pay upfront for a longer subscription, you’ll get a better price as a result. This is pretty much standard these days. It’s tough to find a VPN service that offers a low one-month price with no strings attached.

Plan Billing period Price Monthly equivalent
VyprVPN Standard 1-month $9.95 $9.95
VyprVPN Standard 12-month $60.00 $5.00
VyprVPN Premium 1-month $12.95 $12.95
VyprVPN Premium 12-month $45.00 $3.75
VyprVPN Premium 36-month $60.00 $1.66

Sorting out VyprVPN’s pricing can be a bit tricky, in that the company advertises a “Standard Plan” for $9.95 per month or $60 per year but doesn’t offer any obvious way to sign up for it. Instead, all roads lead to the Premium plan.

With VyprVPN Premium, the pricing isn’t all that dissimilar to competing VPN providers. There’s a more expensive one-month plan, followed by longer-term packages with discounts. VyprVPN also has “Business” and “Business Premium” tiers, though pricing here isn’t advertised — you’ll have to contact VyprVPN for a quote.

Deals on VyprVPN

It’s not uncommon to see deals on VyprVPN — in fact, as of this writing, the service’s advertised pricing is billed as a “limited time only” deal. We’ll stay on top of things and make sure you always know about the best deals, but don’t worry too much: VyprVPN is pretty much always being offered at a discount.

How to Get a VyprVPN Free Trial

It seems free trials for online services are going the way of the dodo. This is especially true in the world of VPN services. Most don’t want to let you connect for free anymore, as some people probably create multiple accounts and take advantage of several free trials. Instead, “30-day money-back guarantees” are the new craze. This forces you to pay some money upfront, even if you can get that money back later by canceling.

VyprVPN has no free trial to speak of, unfortunately. Like many of its competitors, it chooses to offer a 30-day money-back guarantee in hopes you like the service and stick around. Perhaps this tactic will fade out, and VPN services will go back to offering free trials at some point. For now, if you were hoping to try VyprVPN without ponying up some dough, you’re out of luck.

Does VyprVPN Require a Contract?

One benefit to VyprVPN’s pricing model has to do with contracts. Some online services force you to sign a contract before you can begin service, which makes it terribly difficult to leave or to get your money back if you’re unsatisfied.

VyprVPN, at least, has no such requirement in place. You can pay for a one-month plan, a one-year plan, or a two-year plan. There are no contracts, and you can get a refund if you decide to cancel within the first 30 days.

How to Cancel VyprVPN

Some online services make canceling a huge hassle. They require you to jump through some hoops, whether it is calling a phone number or digging around in the backend of a website searching for the correct URL.

To VyprVPN’s credit, it makes canceling fairly straightforward. All you have to do is log into your account on the VyprVPN website, click “Account,” and then find the “Cancel Service” link under the “Services” header — no additional song and dance required.

Is VyprVPN Worth Getting?

What you’ll get out of VyprVPN will ultimately come down to your own personal use case. Compare the features VyprVPN has to those offered by competing services. Take a look at the pricing options and see if they line up with the value you’re getting, too — and be sure to check out our review, where we lay out our own opinions on VyprVPN. If you’re still not sure, you can always just ask us what the best VPN service is.
