At the end the day, most people are cutting the cord – that is, swapping pay TV for online video sources – for one simple reason: to save money.

How much money? Well, let's crunch some numbers. With the calculator below, you can punch in what you're paying for cable, select the streaming services you're considering using instead, and figure out exactly how much you'll save (or lose) by making the change!

Step 1: How much do you pay for cable and internet?
per month
Step 2: How much would you pay for internet on its own?

Step 3: Which streaming subscriptions would you add as a cord cutter?
(Select the streaming services you're considering from the list below. Just choose the ones you'd add if you cut the cord — don't select anything that you'd be paying for anyway!)

You need to add the various Netflix options and the commercial free Hulu to make this more accurate.

    1. Cordcutting.com says:

      Will add!

      1. Timothy Hall says:

        Disney +

      2. Eric d says:

Tell me about using my TiVo with my Plex account, please…

  3. Lisa Murray says:

I just used the closest priced item to what i actually spend on Netflix.

  4. Pete R says:

You should add DirecTV Now and YouTube TV as options.

    1. Cordcutting.com says:

We already have DirecTV Now there, but you’re right in that we should add YouTube TV.

  5. James Bixler says:

I see many services here, but I don’t see Hulu?

    1. Cordcutting.com says:

Hulu and Hulu with Live TV should be there. 🙂

  6. JMYP says:

How about cost for live local network channels?

    1. CC says:

Live local network stations are free. Only cost would be for the antenna or tuner.

      1. Wayne Parkstone says:

Go to “WISH” app on your cellphone. Great digital antennas with rotors are available for $34.99 + s/h. Amazon also has them and you get it much quicker. My problem is finding an ISP at a reasonable cost. Comcast is about $100. If you’ve dealt with them in the past few years you know they lie and will say whatever they think you want to hear to shut you up and get you off the phone. I pray for the day when everyone cuts the cord and Comcast goes bankrupt. Bloodsuckers, leaches and parasites!!!

      2. Smithdoor says:

I using Cable till it was cost me over $1,000 per year. I told the cable co I was taking the aluminum foil off pizza box and saving over $1,000 per. Order a 150 mil amp antenna for under $30.00 Home Depot had top fence tub $20.00 for antenna mast. Order one month of Sling TV for free Roku $20.00. Order used Tablo $120.00
Total $190.00 I was up and running.
It did taking spending some money but still using everything for 5 years so less than $20.00 each year and dropping. I do a few each rent movies

I only get Netflix for just few month each year and only use $5.95 plan.
Currently tryout Watch ATT see good has more current movies over Netflix.
Using a outdoor antenna 15 foot. Picking 115 channels but only using 26 channels.

  7. Dave Ference says:

A minor note, but if you’re already paying for any of these services (such as Amazon Prime or Netflix), don’t check them off on the list to see how much you’d save.

  8. Cathy says:

How about recording? Cable subscribers pay monthly fee for DVR box and a no-monthly-fee fox can cost $249-$399 one time expense. Should this be included in the calculator?

    1. Gary J says:

Add that in your monthly total. I can’t get anything to add up the differences, however. I see no “Total” that works.

  9. Michael Gallucci says:

What if I have a jailbroken FireStick

    1. Kris Pressley says:

Thought jailbroken firesticks had everything on it free?.. was that not the point of jailbreaking it or buying one that was.?.

  20. Nate says:

I used to show this tool all the time when I taught my class cord cutting class at the library. But looks like it doesn’t actually calculate anymore. Any chance of it getting fixed?

    1. Stephen Lovely says:

Hi Nate, so glad you liked it! We’re working on it, I promise. I’m hoping one day soon we can have this set up to automatically update pricing so that it’s always up to date. In the meantime, I’ll be updating it manually whenever I can — thanks for your patience!

      1. Nate says:

Thanks for updating it, but I can’t get the calculate to actually calculate anything! Plus there’s this message near the top, no matter what browser I am using.

// JS was moved from this location and enqued to post ‘3799’ | calculator-widget.js // JS was moved from this location and enqued to post ‘3799’ | calculator-widget.js

Am I the only one seeing this and unable to get it to work?

  22. Aidan says:

Can you add the options for Canada?

  23. Aidan says:

Can you add options for other countries that are not the USA

  24. fred says:

Are there any service providers that would allow selecting a limited number of channels (for instance…20) from a list of ALL available from all/any providers in a given area?

I would be interested is cable news networks, limited sports, science and history. movies.

Various packages promote allot of bloated, useless channels (in my opinion…sorry) but then charge add-0n fees for Golf channels, Newsmax, etc., etc.

    Thank you
